In Loving Memory Of Rev. Denver Lee Stanford Jr,Our Dear Friend/Bro.
REVEREND DENVER LEE STANFORD, JR. Reverend Denver Stanford Jr., 47, died on February 21 in Garland, Texas, after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Rev. Stanford lived his life in ministry, having grown up helping his parents pastor a home missions work in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1983, he was ordained as a minister with the United Pentecostal Church International. Rev. Stanford pastored in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1982, Boston in 1996, directed the "soul-winning" efforts at the church in Redding, California, in 2003 and settled in Garland, Texas, working in the music ministry. He was a man unafraid to speak the truth, but spoke it with respect and compassion. Rev. Stanford, an accomplished musician, was never far away from his saxophone. His talent and passion for the craft could have taken him into the entertainment spotlight, but he chose instead to use his gift as an expression of his passion for his Maker. He played and recorded with the Boston Brass Ensemble and the JCS Band of Dallas, Texas, as well as appearing solo in many churches throughout the United States. He was currently assisting in the music department of the North Cities UPC in Garland, of which he was a member from 2003 to the present. A five year resident of Garland, Rev. Stanford was born in Somers Point, New Jersey in 1959. He graduated from Wichita High School in Wichita, Kansas in 1977. He graduated from Boston's Future Preachers of America Institute in 1984. He also completed a certification from Apostolic Christian College in 1985. Rev. Stanford is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nannette Gentles Stanford, daughters Dana and Janae; as well as his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Denver Stanford Sr., and one brother, Nathan, his wife, Stacey and three nephews: Nathan, Anthony and Christopher. Rev. Stanford understood and embraced the meaning of commitment to the people entrusted to his care, a rock-solid confidant to family, friends, and to the ones he pastored. To these people, it was an honor to call him husband, son, brother and friend. His life cannot be measured by its length but by its depth. To that end, there could be nothing more added. comment posted by Sis OBrien on 02-23-2010 Bro Nathan its good to hear from you and see you still visiting this Special Page for your brother. I miss my mother and try to keep thinking about the future. I don't ever want to forget to smell the roses while we are here on earth. Sometimes you remember the past and wish y ou could relive some of it. I would love to find that I have helped people live for God and love God and not slip into the world. It has been over 20 years since I have seen the Stanfords but I have often thought of them. They are still in my thoughts and I have that assurance that we will meet again on the other side, since our hope is in the Lord. The Stanford family has been an inspiration and have done the work the Lord had ordained to be "fishers of men." Thanks for the memories. Since this earth is not our home we may weep through the night but joy comes in the morning. Nanette, Dana and Janae be strong and courageous because the Lord is with you and will bring you comfort. We had a lot of good times together. I can still remember when he finally broke down and gave his life to the lord at youth camp. we that knew him at this time couldn't believe that he had finally done what he knew all along that he need to do. We were all just excited to see him commit his life to christ. how wonderful it was. he was such a great friend to have to grow in christ with. comment posted by linton lovelock on 09-21-2007 thanks for everything that you have done for me. words cannot express it. you will be greatly missed every time i play the drums i'll remember you comment posted by Sis Rosie on 09-12-2007 To all of the family, Our prayers and thoughts have been with you all thru this loss of such a great man of God. Just rest assure He will be waiting for you at the gates of that city. Then you can all rejoice together again. I met him when we lived in Redding CA and tho we moved to TX, we missed all our dear friends in CA. Our brother-in-law Jason Stovall thought so much of Him and his family. They took Jason in and gave him a home. For that I know he will never forget the blessings of being around such a great man and his family. It was just one of the character traits this man had for people...selfless! To the parents I say Thank-you for raising a young man that cared for others. To sis Nannette for helping with his dreams. To the girls ....he will always be in your hearts. GOD BLESS comment posted by Nathan Stanford on 08-31-2007 If you want to contact me via Email then email NathanS<at>nsnd.com. Thanks for the comments, Nathan comment posted by Bro & Sis Bennett on 04-12-2007 Sis. Nanette, Bro & Sis Stanford, Dana & Janea, Words cannot express our sadness at Denver's passing. For so many years you were family. Denver gave so much. As a friend and as our pastor. We have had some good times at BUPC. Denver may be gone but we have our memories. We remember some of the great worship services we had, when we would worship all night. Denver & Henry playing their sax, Kevin on the organ Sis Nanette on the piano as we sing and dance through the whole service. Those were precious times. We remember Sunday afternoons, Sis Nanette teaching the people people who stayed at church the piano and Denver giving drum lessons. These are memories that cannot be replaced. Thank you for giving to the Lord. comment posted by L.J. D'Arrigo on 04-10-2007 I just learned of Bro. Denver Jr.'s shocking passing. I can't tell you how loving and accepting Denver and the whole Stanford family was to me during my years at BUPC. As a college student, away from home, they and the whole BUPC congregation became my second family. My thoughts and prayers go out to Nanette and the girls, expecially. I will always treasure my fond me memories. L.J. comment posted by Tim & Lana Chandler on 03-27-2007 To all of the Stanford family, our thoughts and prayers have been and will continue to be with you. We were so saddened at the news of Bro. Stanford's passing. We will greatly miss him and his ministry. We have fond memories of being with your family at the Central New England District campmeetings, General conf. and other places of worship. May God give you abundant strength and give you peace always. Tim, Lana and girls comment posted by James Grooms on 03-25-2007 Bro. and Sis. Stanford, Nannette, and children,I am truly sorry for your loss, and truly it is a loss for all of us. He was the first preacher I ever saw with a laptop, and I thought how odd that is. Oh, but now, I realize he was just that individual that marched to his own drummer, and did it in his own quiet, unassuming manner that spoke of his own consistent life. His own individuality was expressed from the camp meeting ball games to the realistic goals he set for himself, and his ministry. While many of us were searching in the clouds, Denver was looking for credible productive ways to serve God and benefit the Church. Less I forget, and who could, Denver lee's special way of worshipping God with that horn of his. God Bless, and know that I have prayed for all of you during this time, and the time to come. Jim Grooms comment posted by Nicola C on 03-21-2007 Well, I didn't know Bro. Stanford Jr. personally but I am sure based off of what I have heard and what I have been told about him, he was a great man of God. I pray that the Lord will give his family strenght during this great loss. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning!! God Bless. comment posted by Stephanie DeSisto on 03-19-2007 To Bro. & Sis Stanford Sr. & Nanette: Denver Lee has merely gone on ahead of us - but he always was one step ahead of everyone anyway! Many a fond memory of our early days at BUPC back in the late seventies and early eighties - trips to McDonalds with Sis. Sharlene Grimm and Denver Lee - Memorial Day picnics in Framingham - Nannette - your wedding day and spending the night at my mom's house in Revere - lots of GOOD times and lots of wonderful memories to keep us moving forward until we are all together again. Each day brings us one step closer to the family reunion. All my love - Sis. Stephanie DeSisto comment posted by La-Tia Mitchell on 03-16-2007 Bro. Stanford was such an awesome man of God. He touched so many of us at UPC and I will never forget how much he contributed to our church. He was so easy to talk to. He was so dedicated to us, and was very straightforward in his advice and opinions. I loved him for that. I enjoyed every moment as a member of the UPC church while Denver Stanford Jr. and Nanette pastored our church. Their love for us is still with me and my girls. What a great example of christian love and stewardship. Thank you Denver! Nanette we love you and the girls and you will ALWAYS be in OUR prayers! Thank you for what you have accomplished in Boston. We will continue! comment posted by Reverend Russell Holmes on 03-14-2007 Bro. Stanford was an inspiration to all that knew him.
